Passion ADVERTISING AS AN ART FORM Throughout its 175-year history, Lindt&Sprüngli has transformed advertising into an art form that inspires consumers around the world. Surfin – The original Swiss standard The fine story begins in 1879 with the world’s first smooth-melting chocolate made by Rodolphe Lindt. Back then, the bars were wrapped in plain white paper bearing the brand name and a signature in black script. The classic Lindt recipe is still on the market and is one of the oldest branded products in Switzerland. Development of the design for the Lindt Milk product line The year 1934 marks a turning point in the company’s branding strategy. Up until then, the Lindt brand would only be used for the classic dark chocolates made according to Lindt’s original recipe. The brand would now also be used for other recipes, such as the Lindt Cream. In 1935, the first milk chocolate is launched under the Lindt brand. This new era starts with a new bar design that visually symbolizes the content. As a result, the Lindt Milk bar line quickly develops into one of the most important and best-selling products in Switzerland. Lindt&Sprüngli’s communi- cation history dates back to the mid-19th century and started with newspaper ad- vertisements, posters, and enamel signs. With the arrival of the first branded products, such as the Lindt Surfin bar in 1879, the brand and prod- uct communication became the focus of attention.
