1,300 1,500 LINDT&SPRÜNGLI 52 E KILCHBERG IS THE HOME OF CHOCOLATE It all started with a groundbreaking idea in 2013, with the founding of the Lindt Chocolate Competence Foundation. The foundation is responsible for the imple- mentation and financing of the gigantic and future-oriented construction project on the Lindt&Sprüngli site in Kilchberg. One success after another An architectural competition to create the unique Lindt Home of Chocolate followed in 2014. The contract was awarded to the architects Christ & Gan- tenbein from Basel. In 2015, the con- struction application was submitted to the municipality of Kilchberg, one year later the pioneer project was approved and, by 2017, the excavation, laying of the foundation stone, and the construc- tion of the building had already begun. A staggering 133,590 tons of earth was removed for the excavation work to clear an excavation pit the size of a soccer pitch. In September 2017, a time capsule was buried into the pit to symbolically fire the starting gun for the building con- struction. This contained, among other things, a chocolate bar produced follow- ing the original recipe by Rodolphe Lindt, “Surfin” – the original Swiss standard for chocolate that marked the beginning of a smooth-melting history.
